A long and weary day had passed me by
And so I laid me
down to rest and sleep
As sun sunk low and stars filled the sky
Fatigue o'ertook me,
I slept long and deep
And it seemed that body, soul could not
keep
My
spirit arose; these sights that I saw
Filled me with wonder, with fear and with
awe.
This appeared in the July 2009 Acorn to announce that the Known World Poetry Challenge would be taking place at Pennsic, and the theme would be 'dream visions.' The form is rime royal, used by Chaucer in his Parliament of Foules (also a dream vision).
