The Lay of Storvik's Founding

Lady Teleri the Well-Prepared
September 12, 2009
On the occasion of the 30th birthday of the Barony of Storvik
Documentation available.

When Seanan was king
Seagate his shire
In Eastern kingdom
Keeping at bay
Tithe-taking monster
Marauder in April
Strong baron needed
To needle this foe

Two battle-servants showed
Signs to the king
Arguing which
Would best serve him
Ragnar Torvaldson
Rich that earl
Strong man, steel-armed
His service was good.

Ysabeau Cameron
Capable woman
Learned and wise
Her words well-heeded
Two before Seanan
Troops had each
Many men loyal
Loved were both

Seanan knew well
No fault must be his
Lest insult taken
Ale of ravens spilled
But how to choose wisely
Between well-matched peers
Either the equal
To undertake task?

Said Seanan,
Stalwart king,
"Baron I need
To battle spring monster
And also skilled steward
Homestead to tend
You two - content
When choice I make?"

Cameron speaks:
"Content, so long
As warder I'm not
For woman being."
Seanan called,
a coin was brought
English shilling
of silver made

"Ethelred's head -
Yseabeau, baroness.
Reverse of coin -
Ragnar shall rule."
Seanan tossed
Tumbled bright coin
Turned in the air
Opened his hand

Caught it, saw
Crown, head of king
So was made Storvik
At Seanan's command
Barony born
Baroness chosen
First seneschal too
Selected by coin
