No doubt my subconscious' way of avoiding the purchase of Sid Meyer's Pirates (it's not the money, or even the needed upgrades. It's the time).
Interesting question, though: what games are you still playing, years after they came out - and will continue to play even when computers are so fast that the space between CIV III turns is imperceptible*?
*Otherwise known as 'pretty bloody fast'.

Nethack. Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Sherlock (and the rest of the Kaser collection). Fool's Errand if I could slow my system down that far. Master of Magic.

Master of Magic (if I can find an old enough computer), Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion 2, Doom 1 & 2, Flight Simulator 2000 (for the Concorde) and my wife still loves Colonization.

Still playing years after they came out? The only ones I can think of are console video games - and with those, heck, I've been playing some of them for two decades.
On the other hand, a new Electronics Boutique just opened up in my area, with a lot of pre-owned (what a cacophonous euphemism) computer games, so I've been browsing through and picking up stuff that I never played when it came out - Thief, Starcraft, Diablo...
So technically, I'm playing them years after they came out - I'm just not still playing them.
