Songs of Steam

Songs of Steam

These Songs have been introduced fairly suddenly; Gabriel appeared to a wide variety of angels and abruptly gifted them with the Songs (usually all three, and at level/1). The reasons for her doing so appeared to be no more unclear than usual, but the assumption is that she thinks that these Songs need to be widely distributed among the Host. Many have noted that "Steam," conceptually, is somewhere between "Fire" and "Water," and have made their own conclusion.

Corporeal - This Song creates a dome of live steam with a radius of SL yards. All attacks into the dome are at -3 to hit, and all energy-based attacks (which include metaphysical ones) have their Power reduced by 2. The Song of Steam will also give a -1 to any use of a resonance or attunement that requires eye contact.

Ethereal - This Song allows the user to create a hypnotic pattern in steam that will react to one subject's thoughts. The subject may resist with a successful contested Will roll: should he fail, he will become fascinated with the steam, which will cause him to project his mental state upon it. This works out to a +(SL) bonus to all Detect Lies rolls made on the subject, as the interrogator can quickly determine what the subject is really thinking.

Celestial - This Song summons an animating evocation of Steam. It will be able to animate any nonliving object capable of movement, whether mechanical or organic; sentient creatures may resist with a successful contested Will roll (use the higher of the SL or the CD for the evocation's Will, in this case only). It is not really alive, but will react to events as if it had an Intelligence of 3 and Precision of 5. It will have a total number of Body Hits equal to (SL x CD), and is at -4 to attack. Any attack that misses by less than 4 will hit the animated item, instead: should the item be destroyed, the evocation can be attacked normally, but may spend one turn animating a new item.

Essence Requirement: 2 (Corporeal/Ethereal), 3 (Celestial). Half cost to maintain.
Extra Degree of Disturbance: 0, if there is steam naturally available; 2 otherwise
Range: LOS
Dur: 1 minute; may be maintained.
