There are researchers who argue that designating this timeline as being part of the Craft series of worlds where organized secret conspiracies wield esoteric power is a mistake; on this Quantum 4 alternate, there are no secret conspiracies. The Illuminated rule openly, and have abandoned subtle machinations for all-out war. Craft-3 is a headache for Infinity in other ways, as it is one of the Restricted alternates that have caught the interest of Homeline's popular culture. The similarity between Craft-3's current war and one of Homeline's is simply too blatantly obvious to miss.
Craft-3, 1842
Current Affairs
A world-wide war with a troubling resemblance to Homeline keeps both researchers and camera crews hopping.
This skill represents as thorough an understanding of the linguistic underpinnings of Angelic as is possible for a mortal on the corporeal plane. It may not be learned at a level higher than the mortal's Intelligence. Knowledge of this skill allows a mortal to purchase Angelic/1, which may not be improved further. A successful skill roll will permit a +2 to all attempts to read Angelic by a mortal who knows the language.
The thing about Angelic is not that it's hard to learn. It's really not all that difficult for humans to do so, honestly. There are forty basic phonemes, each with three tonemes based on high, neutral, or low pitch. This sounds like a lot, pardon the pun, but the distinctive nature of each note is actually easy for even human ears to catch and remember. Angelic is fully "phonetic;" there are no variant spellings, as well as no linguistic puns, homophones, homonyms, or loan words. The verb tenses may be maddeningly complex for anyone who isn't a native speaker of Navaho, but a bare-bones "the farmer is good" sort of statement should be theoretically possible of human speakers of Angelic.
If you've been holding your breath for The A-Team movie, well, we feel sorry for you.
But help is on the way for you and your oxygen-deprived brain. So just hold on. Until June 12. Of next year. Feel better? You should, actually.
The release date, as reported by Variety, is the first for the long-discussed, long-suffering project.
John Singleton, who last yelled cut on Four Brothers, will direct; Michael Bandt and Derek Haas, who helped shoot the lights out with 3:10 to Yuma, are writing the screenplay.
...So I'm guessing "hokey" is Right Out, then. Pity.
Joseph Stalin has the status of martyr on this timeline; his convenient death in the Battle of Moscow made up for a multitude of previous sins, at least in the realm of public opinion. His reputation certainly overshadows that of his successor, Vyacheslav Molotov: while Molotov was able to wage the Great Patriotic War competently enough, he was ironically much less able to achieve Soviet postwar diplomatic goals on his own authority than he was as the agent of another's will. The end result is a Central Europe that is a quiet, yet very real, Cold War battleground - one not helped by internal rumblings against Molotov's continuing rule...
Molotov, 1956
Current Affairs
A superficially milder Cold War in Europe threatens to turn hot from Soviet internal tensions.
It's the Hebrew word for "hand," and is incorporated in the name of this weapon because some angels in Revelations and Development actually do have a sense of humor. It must be noted that all questions about whether this artifact was invented or perfected by member or members of The Committee to Limit Infernal Technological Objectives/Resources In Society will be ignored, with dignity.
My wife has finally gotten her new music blog Mi Contra Fa (I'm told this is quite witty, but I'm strictly an a cappella performer who can barely read music. Also, I'm a philistine) up and running. It will focus on her early music research for the SCA, which is what she's doing when she's not working on satellites for the US Navy. There are a few posts up already, so check it out.
...GURPS Characters is outselling GURPS Campaigns in PDF form because your typical gaming group usually favors having multiple copies (as in, one per player, plus one for the GM) of character generation rules and power/spell descriptions, and usually only needs one or two copies of the combat/setting information.
This Quantum 7 parallel has only been of real interest to Infinity in the last few years. On the surface, it was merely a slightly dull world where the post-Revolutionary United States broke up its trans-Appalachian territories into distinctly different states. What was missed was that this was primarily due to a somewhat more powerful Freemasonic influence in Craft-1 - and that this influence was due to that society's unlocking of true esoteric arts sometime in the mid 1750s. The result was a normal mana world with several areas mildly aspected towards the Communication and Empathy school of magic.
Once its unique nature was discovered, Craft-1 instantly went from not-particularly-interesting to full-fledged Z3 restricted... and the I-Cops are only moderately hopeful that they caught the problem in time.
Craft-1, 1850
Current Affairs
Infinity gingerly tracks an alternate Compromise of 1850 while simultaneously trying to determine the extent of cross-time contamination, in both directions.
