I was there when he realized the true purpose of the Dungeon Master's screen, which is to uphold the beautiful lie that a system, even a system with embedded randomness, is at play. This may have been the moment he decided to take up the role. One rarely rejects the promise of Godhood.

My father passed away early this morning after sudden complications in his treatment at Mt Sinai Hospital in NYC. As most of you know, his health has not been good for the last several years, so we were at least prepared for the possibility, but it is still a wrench. Final arrangements are still being made.
The map is for Alfheim, which is part of the "The Nine Worlds" AH setting that appears in both GURPS WWII: Weird War II and GURPS Infinite Worlds: Lost Worlds. For those without either book - and you should own them; they're written by Ken Hite, so you know they're good - the conceit is that Alfheim is one of eight other alternate WWII worlds suddenly appearing in our 1943. This particular one is medieval fantasy, with the Daoine Sidhe standing in for the Nazis. I planned and plan to flesh out that world a touch more for my own amusement, but... it's been a week.
Via Schlock Mercenary: this Minimus thing really is a rather clever game system. My wife is already thinking about how to incorporate the relationship generation between PCs into her own gamemastering.
I have come to the conclusion that sites like the Retropolis Transit Authority really do need to start making their sites easier to link to to such things. This seems a bit convoluted, just to get it on Facebook.
The Brothers like to play games, and their pieces are other sentient creatures. Once you have gotten their attention, you will be subjected to an endless stream of humiliation and public scorn. You will suffer embarrassment, deliberate degradation of everything that you value, loss of property, friends, social status, dignity. And it will not stop until you are dead or fled the corporeal plane; the Brothers in fact pride themselves on the number of individuals that they have driven to suicide, and treasure those incidents where they can get to the corpse first for one final jape. They are unencumbered by mercy, and not particularly restricted by the bounds of good taste. In short, they are vicious, sadistic bastards.
The Seraphim Council sometimes wishes that they had never approved this group's charter.
