Just as a guess...

...GURPS Characters is outselling GURPS Campaigns in PDF form because your typical gaming group usually favors having multiple copies (as in, one per player, plus one for the GM) of character generation rules and power/spell descriptions, and usually only needs one or two copies of the combat/setting information.

But that is, of course, merely a guess.

Gary Gygax, 1938-2008

He was 69 years old.

No bad jokes, obviously, although he might have appreciated some. My sympathies and best wishes to his family and loved ones.

Ken Hite's Adventures Into Darkness[!]

The blurb for it goes, What If Lovecraft Wrote Comic Books? - and then proceeds to answer the questions in a 48 page PDF for Mutants & Masterminds. Which is not a game I own or play, but which is owned by a company (Ronin Arts) with the mother-wit to pay Ken Hite to write things for them, so I am already well-disposed towards the RPG.

Adventures Into Darkness is essentially divided up into three parts: a quick pseudo-history of Lovecraft's foray into World War II-era comics; background and game descriptions of the various comic book characters themselves; and suggestions on how to integrate Cthulhu Mythos material into Golden Age comics campaigns. The advice looks good, but I was mostly distracted by the first two sections, which are full of in-joke goodness (at least, for fans of Lovecraft. I presume that true comic book enthusiasts have their own funservice). At ten bucks for a PDF, it's worth it for the chuckles and shout-outs - and the artwork and layout have the right feel for the era. For that matter, so does the tone. Obviously, HPL didn't write comic books in the 1940s. But if he had, this would have been the gaming supplement that would have been written about them sixty years later.

Check it out.

Last, but not least, I think it's time for another Month of Content.

With a buffer this time, so as to not annoy the wife with the frantic postings at 11:45 PM.

It's good practice, although... whoops! Almost started to whine, there.

I've added Pelgrane Press to links...

...just because.

Anybody who feels like suggesting other game sites, feel free.

Trail of Cthulhu! By Ken Hite!

Combines Pulp and Horror! Uses GUMSHOE, which was also used for The Esoterrorists, which was very cool! IT MUST BE MINE!

Oh. Forty bucks. Yeah. Well, maybe I can get it through Amazon...

Nope.

Dammit.

PS: The Book of Unrelenting Horror looks primo, too. And there's going to be Robin Law's Stunning Eldritch Tales...

Yes, I'm just torturing myself.

It's about flipping time.

Want. Want want want. Alas, probably so will half of the RPG community.

Plug for a Pyramid Article.

If there's anybody out there actually contemplating running Reality Mather, they should take a look at this Pyramid article by Reverend P. Kitty on monotheistic miracles for GURPS 4e. Sorry that it's subscription-only, but it's well worth your time to read.

I was wondering what happened to this guy...

Jonathan Walton.  Did some really interesting fan work on In Nomine, including a steampunk variant that people wouldn't mind getting their hands on.  Good guy.  Now has a game design blog called One Thousand One.

And while I'm here...

...new gaming blog to notice!  The 20' by 20' Room.  I even recognize some of the names.  Huzzah!

My wife, however, looked puzzled and wondered why it wasn't The 10' by 10' Room.  I had no good reply.
