Sure, and excellent point. But it takes a more sophisticated terrorist to knock out a space elevator on the moon or mars.
There are still technical issues with nanotubes to be worked out, but there's been a lot of progress in a short time, which won't shock the extropian crowd. Every year the space elevator gains in credibility as a feasible option.

Oh, I agree, a Lunar or Martian Beanstalk makes all kinds of sense (particularly the latter). And I may see the start of one on Earth before I die of old age. I'm just being contrary and crochety: practicing for the aforementioned old age, you see. :)
