...I have updated the PayPal button to indicate that I need to replace a hard drive in the family's backup laptop. This is a frivolous sort of need, I readily grant - so nobody feel obligated to kick in. Anybody who does, I'll write you a sonnet or something.

Between the exploding tanker...

...(seen here) and the exploding car-hit-by-a-train (seen here), I'm thinking: avoid travel this Thanksgiving.  Or at least stay away from major metropolitan areas.

If you live in coastal Texas - particularly the area around Galveston - please turn off your computer, grab your evacuation kit and get the hell out of coastal Texas.  Do not drive towards Louisiana.  You might be able to get away with back roads out of major urban centers, provided that you leave right now and listen to the entire traffic report, instead of just the bits involved in your commute.

Why are you still reading this?  Stand not on the order of your coming but go at once!

As John Carter of Mars used to say.  Although I suppose that if you buy the Graham-Everett-Wheeler interpretation of quantum mechanics, he actually might still exist; and, if so, he's apparently immortal and thus very likely still saying it.

Umm.  Right.  Anyway, still alive, just getting out from a bunch of distractions from the small (minor head cold) to the large (same as everybody else, really).  The free ice cream will resume shortly.

Not into blogging...

...I'm tired and the New Orleans thing is depressing, on a wide variety of levels.  Not that anybody down there wouldn't gladly trade his or her situation for mine right this second, of course.

I hate Augusts.

It's looking bad for New Orleans.

They are saying worst-case conditions - which, given the below sea-level nature of the city, is bad.

The problem is, of course...

...that it's August.  Silly-season time in the news, nothing out that I particularly want to see, my favorite authors are either about to or already did publish books; this is a trough period, in other words.  Couple that to a wedding sucking up my free time, and couple that to what was apparently a sinus headache determined to make me take a nap in a dark room, and we get... little in the way of free ice cream for all y'all.
